Banana & Magnesium Against Your Headache // PREVENTION

BANANA, BANA-NA-NA (who else imagined minions singing this, right?!) is a fruit full of nutrients, including magnesium.

MAGNESIUM IS A VERY IMPORTANT MINERAL. It plays a role in keeping our body’s enzymes and blood vessels functioning well. Magnesium seems to relax blood vessels, which may help relieve tension headaches.

BECAUSE OF THESE PROPERTIES, magnesium has been studied as intervention in patients with migraines (severe headaches) and preeclampsia (a serious condition caused by high blood pressure during pregnancy).

ONE STUDY showed that magnesium was more effective for treating acute migraines than standard medication in an emergency setting.

ANOTHER STUDY showed that a magnesium mixed supplement was effective in reducing migraine symptoms. A scientific review of magnesium can be found here.

SOME PEOPLE USE A MAGNESIUM SUPPLEMENT instead of pain killers to ease their tension headache. Although, I think supplements should not be taking lightly, and would much rather recommend meditation, walk in the park and eating a banana – a natural source of mangesium – to achieve the same effect 🙂 !

ONE BANANA HAS 8% OF YOUR DAILY NEEDED MAGNESIUM, and 20% of your daily needed vitamin B6 (which is also healthy for your nervous system).
